Verifiable randomness

Seed commitment (published when the giveaway was created)

Seed
Published when the draw happens.
How to check it yourself
  1. The seed matches the commitment: SHA-256 of the seed (as text) gives the commitment published before the draw.
  2. The list hasn't changed: SHA-256 of the list, one “code:tickets” line per participant sorted by code, gives the fingerprint.
  3. For prize number i (starting at 0): compute SHA-256 of “seed:i”, read it as a number and take the remainder of dividing it by the total number of tickets. Go through the list in order adding up tickets: whoever holds that ticket wins. Remove them from the list and move on to the next prize.
  4. Runners-up are drawn the same way, with the numbers that follow: with 2 prizes, the first runner-up is prize number 2.

Rules

  • Entering is free. You don't have to deposit, trade or pay anything.
  • Accounts from the Hunter rank, with a UID opened with the code, that sign up before the draw time can enter. One entry per account.
  • One ticket per person. Rank, level and badges don’t give more tickets or other giveaways: everyone enters with the same chances.
  • There are 50 winners, picked at random from all the tickets, and nobody can win twice.
  • Prizes are given in the order of the list: the first winners drawn get the first prize, the next ones the second, and so on.
  • The randomness can be verified: before the draw we publish the seed's fingerprint, and afterwards the seed and the list of participants with their tickets. With that, anyone can recalculate the winner.
  • To receive the prize, the winning account has to still be verified. We'll email you at your account's address.
  • If the winning account is no longer verified, gives up the prize or doesn’t reply within 24 hours of the notice, the prize goes to a runner-up: the next one drawn with the same seed and the same list. We publish it on the giveaway page.
